Why Don't You Like Me

I went to a Hitmen game last night, and I was sitting in front of a bunch of 10-12 year olds when I realized something. Well, it's not a new realization, but at the game it was more obvious. It was a pretty tame game, but in the third period the Medicine Hat Tigers scored twice and the Hitmen became more desperate. Fights were just under the surface, waiting to erupt. When a fight did occur, people shouted louder than when someone scored (there were a lot of Tiger's fans). It was just like the ancient Romans in their stadiums watching gladiators fighting to the death. We get more satisfaction from a fight than fair play. For all our talk of saying we've become more civilized than those ancient cultures, we're no better; perhaps worse, since we should be. It's sad, really.
