Watch the Night Go Up in Smoke

Jessica Simpson has fired back at Christian critics who have blasted her raunchy new video "These Boots Are Made For Walking" for being too sexy, insisting they should be more accepting. Members of Christian group The Resistance have publicly blasted pastors daughter Simpson for appearing like "a stripper" in the video wearing the skimpiest of bikinis and washing the Dukes of Hazzard's famous General Lee car. But the singer-turned-actress has hit back, stating the narrow-minded comments are exactly the reason why she gave up a career as a Christian singer when she was making her big break. She says, "It didn't really surprise me because I grew up with a lot of that backlash. That's why I didn't end up going into the Christian music industry. I think that if they're really good Christians the judgment wouldn't be there."

Is it me, or is there something seriously wrong here?

Cruel to be Kind

Well folks, I was looking at several different templates with the thought of changing mine. I found this really cool one, but I was worried that it would delete all my links and stuff and take away my haloscan, and since I really like that sort of thing, I'm going to wait till someone more html-y comes my way to give me a help.
Last night I bought the Def Leppard Cd Rock of Ages. It's pretty sweet. Me likey. I also just bout St. Elmo's Fire. I'm excited to watch it. It was only 7 bucks; can't get any better than that. Well, except for the fact that I was looking for a Cheap Trick cd, but Walmart doesn't even carry them. Argh. Next week or so.
OH! I'm going to Kelowna on Sept. 17th! It's actually actually happening! Woot!

Life Is Waiting For You

Ok, something must be said. I concede that I have fairly conservative views on certains aspects in Christianity, and I certainly do not mean any disrespect to anyone who disagrees with me, nor do I devalue their friendship, intellect, nor Christian walk for having different opinions than me, and I hope and pray that such thinking will be reciprocated.
This is in regard to the relationship between men and women. What brought this on? T.V. As Kris is aware of, I sometimes have to switch channels when commercials come on because they infuriate me. The main commercial I am thinking of is the Progressive commercial where the guy is watching football and his wife (presumably) is nagging him about car insurance, and is not satisfied about his results. Fair enough; we should always do our best - not 'try' because I've recently come to the impression that in 'trying' we lack the initiative and confidence to actually do it. Trying is just a default word in case we fail. Failure is ok, it's how we react, and move on from that is the problem! But that's a tangent for another time. If wifey wanted to get her results, she should have done it herself. When did women wear the pants in the relationship, and when did it become ok to mock men, and pretty much emasculate them? When it happened to women, a huge outcry happened that changed society forever. What happened to the saying, "what's good for the goose is good for the gander"? (For those who don't know or realize - a gander is a boy goose). And why are girls in commercials always getting the keys for the car? My dad always drove - unless he was so extremely sick blood was filling his eyes so he couldn't see, or he wasn't conscious. He dislocated his shoulder and was still driving a stick! And in some of these commercials the girls are so small, they probably couldn't even see over the steering wheel.
Ok - with those thoughts in mind, I bring to the table the Word of God.
"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of hte church, and He is the Savior of the body . . . husbands, love your wives just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word . . . so husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself" (Ephesians 5: 22-23; 25-26; 28) I added the verse about husbands, because I in no way want to be mistaken as approving wife beating. It is a give and take relationship, but the husband is the head.
"Wives, submit to your own husbands, as it is fitting in the Lord. Husbands, love your wives and so not be bitter toward them." (Colossians 3:18-19). Women, don't nag husbands to the point of bitterness (Kim July 19).
I know what I probably say is so old school, and very undesired in a liberal world, but when did we start forgetting what God said, or saying, 'oh it's cultural, so it doesn't mean anything'. Why did God allow it to be added to the canon if He didn't think that in the year 20 aught 5 it would be useful to us? Well it's useful to me, and it gives me insight into being a godly wife.
And thats where I stand on that!

Tie Up My Old Brown Shoes

Such a fun weekend. It was great having Nicky over, but now the house is empty. Psh, she hasn't even been gone 30 minutes and already the house feels lonely again. At least we had the weekend! Yesterday we went to "The Drum" as I like to call it. We went to see The Canadian Badlands Passion Play. Extra good stuff because we got in for free and all we had to do was open doors for the golf carts. I got to play bouncer sometimes, but all in all the verdict was easy. Such an incredible landscape too. I've never seen anything like it. I was totally in tourist mode. Very unashamedly too. I'd want to go back just to look around and take pictures. I got a souvenir for my folks, and my souvenir was a very bright shade of pink on my arms and neck. Super duper. I knew I would probably need sunblock, but the breeze fooled me into thinking that I wasn't getting that warm. Today Nicky and I just vegged - I think we watched about 11 episodes of Alias. Good times. Tomorrow it's back to work, then a day off then back to work then another day off. Next week Allison is coming up - having seen her in 2 years - it's going to be great. We worked as banquet servers at Elim, and as fellow dorm mothers and program workers. We quit on the same day. Good memories. She's going to be taking me up to Banff. I'm so excited to be seeing the mountains up close again, after a year's hiatus!
I'm off to bed - it's hard to sleep when you're sunburned so I like to get in as much time as possible to try!

The Cold November Rain

Well, my party is over, but what a fun night! My shish-kabobs turned out great (to my joy and surprise), and it's something I won't be scared to do again. I also made a peach salad that my mom is famous for, and I'm happy to say, it was as good as hers! Dee and I are hoping to have a "back to school, or whatever it is you do" party come September before everything gets too busy, and I just might make that salad again. Tomorrow - the Passion Play in Drumheller. I'm praying that it doesn't rain. I'd like to get some more sun. After 4 summers working outside - either on the farm, or at camps, it's still killing me to have to spend more hours inside than outside. Well, I have 2 more days off, and I'm going to milk them!

Children of the Land

What a horrible night. I worked as per usual...only 4 more days till a day off! (my last day off was Tuesday) Jenna left around 7:15, and I was able to get the mirrors done, and then all of a sudden I was so busy. At 8:30 or so, all my fitting rooms were full, and I had a heap of drags (mostly from one person). When this specific person came to buy her 1 item. 1 out of 25 I would say, she was upset that the jacket wasn't half off the mark down price. You see, we only have 2 racks that say, 50% off of lowest marked price, and I even reiterated it for her so there would be no confusion. She became irate and explained to me as if I had a lower IQ than Forrest Gump, that since it says 'all' it should include every sale item. I told her that we only have that sign on those two racks, and the other sale items have a generic sale tag on the hangers, while the 50% off items have a 50% off tag. She the proceeded to tell me that she worked with lawyers and that meant that she was right. I fail to see the correlation, but maybe it's because Forrest Gump is my intellectual superior.
After that it was drags drags drags, that I didn't get done before I had to run to catch my bus. Good thing I'm opening tomorrow. You know, after 8 hour shifts, 6 hours just flies by. It's better for my feet too; I have this massive bruise on my right foot, taking over my arch. Sort of hurts too. Well, I'm off; hopefully more people want to come to my party so it will actually be a party.

Janie's Got A Gun

Best day in a long time! Nicky came to see me and we had lunch together, and when I was done work, she came over to my place, where we rented pizza and watched Lemony Snickett's A Series of Unfortunate Events. I must say, it was a pretty rocking movie! I feel bad for her though because it took 2 and a half hours to get to my neck of the woods. She's going to be exploring the LRT so I hope that makes it faster! It's been too long since we've seen each other.
Yesterday I went to see the Stampede Parade. What a great time! There was 175 floats or so; way bigger than the Santa Claus Parade in Cannington! I saw the wee little chuck wagon horses. So cute; I wanted to take one home with me! And I saw a sheep dog herding sheep. It was so cool to see, the discipline that dog has to listen to it's master. All the guy did was whistle, and the dog knew what to do.
Whew, I'm beat!

Get Off Of My Cloud

Yesterday Donna gave me some iris', chicks and hen, and chives to start my garden. Today, she picked up for me some petunias, and some dusty John mill things. It's great! I'm hoping to get some rhubarb too so I can make me some pie! Having two days off in a row seems great, but it's only fun if you have someone to share it with. I was bored out of my mind. I found out yesterday that dad dislocated his shoulder again, just by opening a door. It's hard to think of him as gimped up; he's never been really hurt before. I found out today, that there is a mega huge chance I can go home over the holidays! I just have to work boxing day, but hopefully I can get an early shift, and fly home that day and hopefully stay for the week! If that didn't make my day, I don't know what will. Oh, AND, in my pepsi case I think I won a trip for two to Kelowna for a chance to tee up for a million. I'm thinking of giving them a call to see what's what. It'd be fun to go, but hopefully I don't have to golf, because let's face it. It's incredibly boring! I need a bbq for the 16th, and I don't want to buy one, so hopefully I can borrow me one for my shish kabobs. Well, nothing more to report. Dar Mqbool's last day is Friday.

Augustus Was Very Considerate

Ha, the other night, I dreamt about Nikita Khrushchev! How funny is that?! For some reason he wanted to marry someone. Not himself being joined in holy wedlock, but to be the marrier. So...it was my task to find the marryees. [Is that a word? Meh, if Shakespeare can make them up, so can Kimspeare]. So I'm feeling a lot better wormhole wise knowing that I know there is light at the end of the tunnel. I promised my mom to give it a month, but I honestly feel like for now, I'm no longer needed there. It's a good feeling. Today I worked, (of course!), and it was the first stat that I didn't work with Lorraine, and I missed her. When I was vaccuuming, I thought of calling her, but we got busy. I was at the counter cleaning up when Lorraine came wheeling up in her chair (She just had foot surgery)! I was so happy to see her. We have a lot of the same views of how the company is going and the like, and I missed working Sundays and stats with her. Plus she bought me an iced cap. She said to me, it's a stat, and I KNOW you were going to have to work it, so I brought you something to make it better. And it totally did! It's funny the little pick-me-ups we need. Wow, long post, and I'm STILL not done. I had a good day...actually good three days all things considered. I went out THREE nights in a row. That is a record to be sure. I went to Quest on Wednesday. The guest speaker was Blaine MacDonald [sp?] who is the guy from the Badlands Passion play. I told myself that I was going to go out there and see it, and sometime in my life I was going to participate in it. Thursday, I was mentioning it to Kristin, and she said, "I'm going to see that on the 17th." I said, "I have the 17th off. Can I come?" She replied, "yes". This is exciting for two reasons. The first one being I can see the play obviously. The second one being it will be the 5th time I've been out of Calgary since I've been here, and I've never been to Drumheller nor the badlands! So exciting. Scott: maybe I'll dig you up a dinosaur bone. You want?
Tonight: I went rollerblading down in the SE. No offense to any of you living there, but it kind of smelled. Maybe you think the NW smells when you come up here. I'm cool with that. So fun! I haven't bladed in a year, and that was a 10 minute thing. Definitly different that ice skating, but I still did well. I actually lapped people! I've never been able to boast that before! (I was lapped as well by others...no biggie). The people on Project are so nice to me, it's definitly what I need this summer. This guy (no idea of the name and you will understand why in a moment). He skated (yes roller skates were used as well) by me and introduced himself to me, and stuck out his hand, obviously expecting a hand shake. I needed to speed up a bit to give him a proper one, but my foot hit the back of his skate, and I almost fell. True to my nature I flailed, trying to find someone to take down with me, when I hit Lisa in an inopportune place and managed to stay afloat. So funny though. Then, when I was done blading (I was getting a pretty wicked blister on my toe - I've had my skates for nigh on 6 years and I still haven't broken them in!) I sat in a both and sipped my lemonade, quite content with watching everyone. All of a sudden there was a slew of people surrounding me and talking with me. It was so exciting to get to know new people (a lot of them from Ontario as well), and one of them sort of knows Matt Mackay. Small world! A couple of the girls and I went to Wendy's where there was a loud drunk girl who was saying some very scandalous things - if you're going to get drunk, why go out in public and bother people? Anyway, all in all a great night, one I wish to repeat (well maybe with another activity though!)
